Bereavement is the death or loss of someone close to us. Grief is the process of how bereavement and loss can affect us. There are many different types of loss: loss of health, of employment, marital breakdown, divorce even death. How we react to loss will be different for everyone. For most people there is a period of intense, fluctuating reactions that may ease over time.
Grief and loss impact everyone differently and can affect us in many ways:
- emotional
- physical
- social
- cognitive
- financial
- spiritual
The experience of grief doesn’t have to be lonely and done in isolation. It can help to have someone there to support you through your experience of loss or bereavement.
Grief is a matter of the heart and soul. Grieve your loss, allow it in, and spend time with it. Love never dies, and spirit knows no loss.
